Nutraceuticals (coined by S.DeFelice, M.D) "any substance that may be considered a food or part of a food and provides medicinal or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease (which makes them a drug and only doctors can prescribe)." A nutraceutical may be a naturally nutrient- rich food such as spirulina, garlic, or a specific component of a food like omega 3 oil. We utilize B12 injections, stimulant and stimulant free Neurotransmitter Replacement Therapy amino acids.

HCG is the glycoproteic hormone it consists of two chains, called the alpha and beta subunits.  The three pituitary hormones LH (Luteinising Hormone), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) are closely related to hCG in that all four are glycosilated and have a dimeric structure comprising the alpha and beta chains as well. Since 1975 the FDA requires the following: hCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or "normal" distribution of fat or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.

FDA approved appetite-suppressing drug to help reduce weight in obese patients (30 BMI) used short-term combined with exercise, diet, and behavioral modification. We also prescribe to some patients with >27 BMI who are at increased medical risk.  The drug targets areas in the brain and adrenals to release norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger that signals a fight-or-flight response, reducing hunger. Phentermine works outside the brain, as well, the adrenals to release epinephrine or adrenaline, causing fat cells to break down stored fat, but the principal basis of efficacy is hunger-reduction. It also releases serotonin and dopamine, but to a much lesser extent than that of norepinephrine.

In 2012, the FDA approved combination phentermine drug for weight loss (appetite suppressant) phentermine/topiramate (Qsymia).

We are a multi-specialty practice that provides primary and specialty medical care, comprehensive diagnostic services, bariatric medicine (The branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity), We believe weight loss requires a lifelong behavioral modification, and should not be viewed as a short-term goal or a quick fix.  We don’t view it as a mere diet either!  We take a holistic approach and focus on diet, exercise, and sleep hygiene to achieve and sustain a healthy weight goal. Patients are expected to sustain long-term weight loss goals and achieve about 90% success rate by following our doctors’ recommendations and plans.

Our weight loss program: History, physical exam, EKG test, blood work, body composition measurements, followed by private consultation with one of our Board Certified Physicians to map out a personalized plan optimized to fit your circumstances and meet your weight goals.  We will explain "Low Carb" and "Low Fat" diets and different types and approaches to each allowing you to pick one that meets your particular needs.  Ultimately weight loss is determined by calorie consumption versus calorie expenditure.
